Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS)

Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS) is an in-home or community program designed to enhance the psychological, behavioral, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being of children. These services are available to Iowa Medicaid-eligible children under the age of 21 who have been referred and screened by a qualified mental health professional.
While BHIS complements therapy, it is not a replacement, and it is often most effective when combined with ongoing therapy. Services can take place in the home, office, school or other community settings,
BHIS focuses on skill development in key areas, including:
Conflict Resolution
Social Skills
Problem-Solving
Interpersonal Skills
Emotional Regulation
Communication Skills
Anger Management
